Reviewed income scenarios

Dividend Income Goal Calculator

Estimate how much capital a target monthly distribution would imply at each reviewed ETF’s displayed source-reported yield. The comparison is arithmetic, not a ranking of quality: a higher yield lowers the estimate but may accompany changing distributions, price decay or weak total return.

Estimated capital by displayed yield

Bars compare the capital implied by each displayed source-reported yield. A lower estimate reflects a higher current yield, not a safer or better fund. Review each fund's grade, decay flag, payout cadence and available total-return context.

What this tool calculates

Estimated capital formula

Estimated capital = annual income goal ÷ (source-reported yield ÷ 100). The monthly goal is multiplied by 12 first. Results use the displayed yield unchanged and do not assume that future distributions stay level.

Worked example

$2,000 monthly goal using SCHD

A $2,000 monthly goal equals $24,000 annually. At SCHD’s displayed 3.00% source-reported yield, the formula implies about $800,000 of capital. This is a hypothetical estimate, not a forecast or statement that SCHD will pay that amount.

What the estimate leaves out

Displayed yields and distributions can change. The estimate excludes taxes, trading costs, reinvestment, distribution timing and changes in market price or NAV. A fund can distribute cash while losing value, so compare the visible grade and decay flag with payout cadence, distribution history and available source-defined total return.
